What’s with the movie trailers on TV?

I don’t understand this. I noticed it after Nip/Tuck when they had Memoirs of a Geisha and Freedomland (which I can’t seem to find an official site for.. hmm).

Now I see that Desperate Housewives is going to have a preview for In Her Shoes.

Notice how things are changing? We used to get previews at the movie theatres, and commercials on TV.

Now we get commercials at the movie theatres, and previews on TV.

Oh wait. Actually we’re getting both at both places, aren’t we? I wonder what’s next? I mean, ok, fine. TV is having trailers on after popular shows. Fine. I can change the channel if I want.

At the movies? Getting 3 minute long commercials for the latest Pimply Rears album? What ever happened to the cutesy little “Let’s all go to the lobby, let’s all go to the lobby, let’s all go to the lobby, and get ourselves a snack!” shorts that they always played? The ones everyone thought had subliminal “Go buy salty popcorn and sweet Coke at the concession stand” messages in them?

Nevermind intermission. Intermissions were nice, if you’re old enough to remember them. Everyone would pile out of the theatre and stretch their legs, or run to the bathroom real quick, while someone went to get more soda and salty/sweet snacks. No more having to miss parts of your favorite movie!

Am I the only one who misses those days?
